When you plan a Walt Disney World resort vacation, you will definitely want to plan a few souvenirs in your budget. But did you know there are some awesome souvenirs that are free or almost free? Here’s a small sampling of some of our favorite things to bring home in addition to our memories!
Elongated coins and Penny Presses
For just $0.51 (2 quarters and the penny you plan to press), you can take home a unique keepsake. Be on the lookout for coin presses at locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort—including:
Magic Kingdom Park
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Disney’s Animal Kingdom park
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park
Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park
Disney Resort hotels (select locations)
ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf
Winter Summerland Miniature Golf
At Disneyland Resort, you can find over 150 different commemorative images that can be pressed onto a penny, nickel, dime or quarter with pressed coin machines throughout Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, the Downtown Disney District and at all 3 Disneyland Resort hotels.
While Disney Cruise Line doesn’t have pressed coin machines onboard the ships themselves, there is a pressed coin machine located at the Disney Cruise Line terminal at Port Canaveral.
Whether you keep them in a pressed coin keepsake book, make them into a bracelet or simply keep them in a jar, pressed coins are an inexpensive way to relive the memories of your vacation.
Whether you are celebrating a birthday, a wedding or anniversary, your first visit or any other celebration….there’s a button for that! Stop by Town Hall on Main Street, USA or at your hotel’s front desk to grab a button to announce to the world that it is YOUR party and you are celebrating! While “extra magic” is never guaranteed, it never hurts to wear your button proudly. Cast members have been known to sprinkle extra pixie dust in the form of desserts, stickers and other goodies to those wearing celebration buttons! And you will definitely hear your share of “Congratulations” or “Happy Birthday” from Cast Members and guests alike.
Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom cards, A Pirate’s Adventure
Embark on an interactive scavenger hunt to halt Hades in his tracks! The Greek god of the Underworld must retrieve 4 missing shards to reassemble Merlin’s Crystal of the Magic Kingdom and make the park his new summer home. He’s enlisted a brigade of Disney baddies—Yzma, Cruella, Scar, Jafar, Maleficent, Ursula, Ratcliffe and Dr. Facilier—to help track down the fragments, which are hidden throughout the park. It’s up to you to foil their takeover attempts!
To play, stop by the Firehouse on Main Street, U.S.A. for everything necessary to begin 9 exciting quests, including a Sorcerer Key Card, Merlin’s mystical map, spell cards and training on how to unlock Magic Portals and defeat the dastardly evildoers. Most missions take 20-30 minutes, depending on difficulty and you may complete as many as you wish. Special cards are often part of separately ticketed events, such as Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
Similar to Sorcerer’s of the Magic Kingdom, A Pirate’s Adventure is also a free interactive game filled with missions to complete. Sign ups take place at The Crow’s Nest in Adventureland. Then you will be able to help Jack complete each unforgettable mission.
Kidcot coloring pages and fans
Heading over to Epcot for your next adventure? Make sure to allow time for your little one to visit at least a few Kidcot Fun Stops. Collect stamps and create a personalized souvenir at any or all 11 of these World Showcase craft stations, located at these locations:
Mexico Pavilion (near Animales Fantasticos)
Norway Pavilion (at The Puffin’s Roost)
China Pavilion (near the exit of Reflections of China)
Germany Pavilion (at Volkunst)
Italy Pavilion (outside, near La Bottega Italiana)
American Adventure Pavilion (outside, near Heritage Manor Gifts)
Japan Pavilion (in the Bijutsu-kan Gallery)
Morocco Pavilion (at the Marketplace in the Medina)
France Pavilion (at Souvenirs de France)
United Kingdom Pavilion (at The Toy Soldier)
Canada Pavilion (at the exit of O Canada!)
Most Walt Disney World resort hotels offer several activities throughout the day, including many that provide unique souvenirs. Some are completely free of charge and some have a nominal fee. We’ve seen shirt tie dye stations, as well as a free drawing class offered at Disney’s Art of Animation resort (open to all guests) where you keep your drawing.
Whether you purchase a “Disney official” autograph book or use your creativity, character autographs are one of our favorite souvenirs. What a fabulous way to remember meeting and interacting with your favorite characters! Using a photo mat, a pillowcase, a Vinylmation figure, a hat, can all create a useful and inexpensive souvenir that will be enjoyed for years to come! So let your creativity run wild! One note: characters are not allowed to sign anything being worn, so if you want an autograph on a favorite t-shirt, make sure you pack it and not wear it.
Don’t overlook the souvenir you are wearing on your arm! Do you display your magic bands when you get home as a reminder of your magical time at the Walt Disney World resort? We’ve seen families display their Magic Bands in clear jars, shadow boxes and also fashioned into a wreath.
